Digital Accessibility: Because Good Design Should Be Accessible to Everyone

From the very beginning, we incorporated the concept of digital accessibility into our new website and implemented it in many areas to make our site more accessible and easier to use.
From a purely legal standpoint, we would not have been required to do so in this way. But for us, the question wasn’t whether we had to—but whether we should.
As a company in the medical field, this issue is particularly important to us. Every day, we work with products and solutions for people—and within our company, we are committed to inclusion, participation, and treating one another with respect.
That’s why it wouldn’t be consistent for us to limit this approach to just our products and workplace. It should also apply wherever people interact with us digitally.

Digital accessibility is not limited to a single tool or feature. We have taken a multi-pronged approach, including:
•    clearly distinguishable font sizes and strong color contrasts
•    navigation options using both the mouse and the keyboard
•    alternative text for images
•    captions and audio descriptions for videos
•    content that is easy to read and understand
•    additional text prompts for required fields that have not been filled out
•    the best possible compatibility with common screen readers
•    customizable display options for different devices—from smartphones and tablets to desktops

And let’s be honest: Accessibility isn’t a project you complete once and then check off your list.
A website is constantly evolving. New content, features, and technical changes continually present new challenges. That’s why we view accessibility as an ongoing process and continue to work on identifying existing barriers and improving our website step by step.

Because good design shouldn’t just look good.
It should be accessible to as many people as possible.
